…86.7% of househols in the uk now have digital televison.
This has increased from 19% in 1997.
The key reason for this rapid increase is freeview. The ease of being able to pick up a freeview box and recieve digital tv has promoted it. People are releluctant to pay subscriptions therefore the introduction of freeview encouraged more people to invest in digital tv.

In some cases TV does need to be portable, these days there is not much need for the actual “box” of the tv as tv programmes have become more widely available and more mobile. For example, audiences can chose to watch what they want when they want by using an iphone, psp or ipod. This advantage of mobility means that the “box” itself is becoming neglected.
We can also interpret portable as being the TVs willingness to be flexible. These days tv need to be more flexible to fit around it’s audiences. This means that tv on demand is very important, the flexibility of tv is now more important than ever.
However, in some cases non portable aspects of the tv are still successful. For example, the nintendo Wii is one of the most successful games console, it sells 1.8 million per months after being out 18 months already. This shows that some non mobiles aspects of the tv still work. The social and active side of the Wii over rule the lack of mobility.
Also, for some people material possessions are highly important. People like big tv’s, and multiple gadgets such as surround sound system. This creates a better tv experience and this also enhances the gaming experience. This has become more important recently as gaming has become yet more important to an even wider range of people, different ages etc. Due to the introduction of different games such as the Wii.

I plan to base my case study on Digital television.
Digital t.v has gradualy become more important in media recently, the advances of t.v on demand and time shifting has increased it popularity. TV programmes now have to fit into the lives of it’s audience, as people do not set certain times for t.v like they used to.

Everyone new there would be issues when the Internet became popular. People were worried about ’ safety, do there parents know what they are doing…do they really care? The Internet created a easy ay of constructing false identities, how can you tell who people really arewhen they have created themselve a vritual life.
However, a new issue has risen and an article on the BBC page explores ” suicide web pages”. The Internet has been known to be the home of positive groups, were people who have things in common come together and communicate. For example, there are web pages dedicated to illnesses were people can discuss and relate to each other.
These “suicide pages” run the same, the pro-suicide site are not yet banned in the UK unlike other countries and health campaigners believe that the sites prey on vulnerable people to provoke actions.
The people on the sites believe that they have things in common and instead of helping each other they seem to encourage each other in their suicide plans.
Should people in this state be able to get to site like this by the click of a mouse?
We should have control of what goes on the Internet, because at the end of the day it’s us putting it on there. But we actually don’t have control of the situation and can’t stop whats happening.

Technologies are converging and changing. I found an article discussing how Myspace has commissioned and online drama. It has teamed up with a producer and director and has plans to create its own series.
This creates the question whether there will be need for the actual television “box” in the future. People can watch television programmes through their computers, PSP’s and even their phones. So who needs a Box in the corner of the room when you can have it all in your pocket?

Despite various institutions efforts to encourage mobile phone gaming over the past few years, it has never really caught on. The most well know phone games are probably snake or tetris.
However, Game developer believe that by improving the technology by using touch screens, new dimensions and better console power the mobile phone gaming industry can become fast growing and ensure us that it is expanding quickly.
