In some cases TV does need to be portable, these days there is not much need for the actual “box” of the tv as tv programmes have become more widely available and more mobile. For example, audiences can chose to watch what they want when they want by using an iphone, psp or ipod. This advantage of mobility means that the “box” itself is becoming neglected.
We can also interpret portable as being the TVs willingness to be flexible. These days tv need to be more flexible to fit around it’s audiences. This means that tv on demand is very important, the flexibility of tv is now more important than ever.
However, in some cases non portable aspects of the tv are still successful. For example, the nintendo Wii is one of the most successful games console, it sells 1.8 million per months after being out 18 months already. This shows that some non mobiles aspects of the tv still work. The social and active side of the Wii over rule the lack of mobility.
Also, for some people material possessions are highly important. People like big tv’s, and multiple gadgets such as surround sound system. This creates a better tv experience and this also enhances the gaming experience. This has become more important recently as gaming has become yet more important to an even wider range of people, different ages etc. Due to the introduction of different games such as the Wii.
